Mencap is the UK's leading learning disability charity. Our services in housing, education and employment support thousands of people with a learning disability across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. And through our work in the community, we support thousands more to speak up for themselves and their rights, gain confidence and take part in the activities that really interest them.
Our vision is of a world where everyone with a learning disability has an equal right to choice, opportunity and respect, with the support they need.
We know that there is still a long way to go before people with a learning disability, their families and carers are given the recognition that they deserve. We are ambitious for our future and the future of all those that we support – together we can achieve a lot.
Riders in the Express Insurance National Rally have the chance to make a difference by raising vital funds for Mencap – there is no minimum sponsorship and every little bit does really help.
What your support can achieve:
- £25 could help us to make the first visit to a family who have a newly-born child with a learning disability and desperately need advice and support.
- £50 could pay for two young people with a learning disability to take part in our Gateway Award programme for a year (this is similar to the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme).
- £140 would enable us to respond to ten calls on our freephone learning disability helpline that provides vital information and support to people with a learning disability and their families
- £250 could pay for 16 children who cannot speak to attend a special workshop where they can learn the Makaton sign language.
- £570 could pay for the 16-week course we run for volunteers to train them to provide advice and support to families who have children with a learning disability.
- £2,000 could provide 250 families, who have just found out that their new baby has a learning disability, with an advice pack
